The Role

As a Tax Analyst within the TaxCycle by Xero product development team, you will shape software tools that simplify tax preparation for Canadian professionals. You will research and interpret federal and provincial tax legislation changes, converting complex legislative updates and customer requests into intuitive tax forms and accurate software calculations.

In this role, you will hold stewardship over an income tax filing module within TaxCycle, taking it from legislative analysis through to annual government certification. By collaborating with engineering, quality assurance, and customer support, you will ensure our tax products deliver exceptional accuracy and reliability for accounting professionals across Canada.

The team / how they connect

The TaxCycle product team brings together tax subject matter experts, software developers, quality analysts, and product managers who are passionate about building dependable tax solutions. Working collaboratively in an agile setup, the team manages product backlogs, conducts release planning, and solves customer challenges together. They connect daily through structured agile rituals to keep development aligned with long-term strategy and user needs.

Initially, you will focus on

  • Analysing Canadian federal and provincial income tax legislation changes to update calculations and form designs directly within the software.

  • Collaborating with development and quality assurance teams to ensure full compliance with government income tax filing certification standards.

  • Translating accounting partner needs and tax season feedback into prioritised user stories and product backlog items.

  • Supporting client escalation queries and producing clear technical release notes to guide users through legislative changes.

Here are some of the things we are looking for

  • You bring a strong background in Canadian income tax preparation along with professional accounting knowledge or equivalent practical experience.

  • You possess a comfortable aptitude for technology and enjoy working directly with tax calculation logic inside software tools.

  • You offer experience working inside agile product delivery teams alongside software developers and testers.

  • You bring clear communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legislative details in simple terms for client guidance and internal teams.

  • You have bilingual proficiency in English and French, which is welcomed though not essential.

The expected base salary range for this role is $110,000 to $138,000

Individual pay is determined by various factors, including geography, level of experience, and the specific skills you bring to the role.

In addition to base pay, Xero’s roles are eligible for the following forms of variable compensation:

  • Variable Pay: Permanent employees are eligible to participate in our annual bonus and equity (RSU) programs. You may also be eligible for performance-based cash or equity (RSUs) incentives depending on your role level, and company performance.

Employee Share Plan (ESP): Own a small portion of Xero through the employee share plan (ESP). Each year, every Xero receives a percentage of their base salary in Xero shares. The number of shares varies yearly based on salary and share price. Shares are typically offered in July and, for new employees, they’re pro-rated depending on start date.
